pre/post frenectomy

Wether you suspect your child (or you) has a restriction of oral tissues (tongue, lip, cheeks), or a restriction has already been identified and you are in the process of scheduling a release, pre- and post-care will be beneficial to the musculature re-education process.

  • The most successful patients work with us both before and after a release of tethered tissues to optimize oral function. This includes functional therapy for the jaw, tongue, lips, and cheeks to aide in feeding, breathing, and for speech. Therapy goals will be developed after a functional evaluation is completed.

  • The prescribed work at home is crucial to the outcome of a release.

  • Therapy Before:

    • Your therapist will let you know how many sessions will be required for optimal function prior to a release.

    • Exercises are developed on an individual basis focused on the areas of need for each patient.

    • Schedule one session with PickleTree the week prior to your release.

  • Therapy After:

    • When you schedule your release with your provider, go ahead and schedule at least three weekly sessions with your therapist at PickleTree for the three weeks post-release.

    • You and your therapist may observe that you will need additional sessions to fine tune skills.

    • Practicing the motor movements used in post-frenectomy care helps the child learn the motor pattern required for the therapeutic exercises without the post-procedure discomfort.
