sleep disordered breathing

Did you know that while snoring may be common, it is definitely not “normal”. Current research demonstrates that myofunctional therapy decreases apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) by approximately 50% in adults and 62% in children. Lowest oxygen saturations, snoring, and sleepiness outcomes improve in adults. Myofunctional therapy could serve as an adjunct to other obstructive sleep apnea treatments.

Signs of obstructive sleep apnea include:

  • Mouth breathing awake or asleep, in the absence of snoring

  • Snoring, often with pauses, snorts, or gasps

  • Heavy breathing while sleeping

  • Waking often, restless sleep and sleeping in unusual positions (i.e., hand over head, bottom in the air)

  • Bedwetting after potty trained

  • Waking up tired, and/or difficult to wake up in the morning

  • Daytime sleepiness or behavior problems

  • Sleepwalking or night terrors

  • Behavioral and attention problems
